Rebecca & Matthew Wedding- August 2015
Rebecca and Matthew are a fun loving couple who knew exactly from the start what they wanted for their big day. “We’ve got loads of great friends and family and we knew that a hotel or any other standard venue just wasn’t for us! We liked Deighton lodge as it was close to home, and all our friends and family live close by and didn’t want everyone to have to travel too far, as well as being able to make the whole day personal and individual to us by having a marquee and decorating everything ourselves.”
Rebecca went for a pretty pink and white floral theme, with tons of bunting, jam jars and natural flowers supplied by Ello Flower to lift the whole place. She made all the decorations herself, opting for pink napkins and hessian table runners, bunting for her marquee and the rest of Deighton Lodge and candles everywhere you looked! She roped friends and family to save 180 jars which she then decorated by hand in pretty pink and ivory lace which served as candle holders – a real labour of love that took Rebecca 9 months to complete! The Groom and father of the bride, Daniel, made some great rustic signs from old wood and Rebecca added her touch by decorating them. All the bridesmaids and some close family got involved with setting the day up, making the wedding a real team effort; everyone felt like they had played their part in making their dreams come true. To set their marquee off the couple used some pretty Lit Trees and Love Letters supplied by Emily at Fabulously Finished.
Rebecca and her bridal party arrived at Deighton Lodge on the Friday evening to finish putting together their finishing touches, just as they wanted them. After a relaxing night with her bridesmaids, (eating pizza!) they were greeted with a decent cooked breakfast and had a leisurely morning (with a little pink fizz!) whilst Julie Mercer from Julie Mercer Beauty Therapy and Hannah and Victoria from Reflections Hair Design tended to their needs.
Their car, a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow provided by Roger’s Wedding Cars, Selby whisked them off to St Mary’s Church, Riccall for their ceremony, before returning them back to Deighton Lodge to mingle with their guests, at their Pimms reception and have photographs taken before sitting down for the Wedding Breakfast.
“Food and sharing around the table is really important to our family” Rebecca said. “We didn’t want anything too formal but we wanted to thank our friends so we had really short speeches before having a barbeque with a selection of salads supplied by Johnsons Butchers of Thirsk. “We had small jars of Tomato Ketchup as our favours on the table, each jar we filled by hand and decorated to look like jam jars with our guests’ names on them to accompany the BBQ and keep in with the theme! We offered a selection of tasty homemade tray bakes, cupcakes and jam scones for dessert supplied by Ann’s Cakes, and some of our friends that had offered to help, for our guests to enjoy and help themselves.
If a full table of cakes all day long wasn’t enough we opted for a rustic iced 4 tier cake simply decorated with fresh flowers made by Ann Day, as well as a fabulous 3 tier pork pie cake for the evening made by Johnson’s of Thirsk, complete with a cake topper of me in my wedding dress and Matthew on his motorbike made my by one of our friends!” After the breakfast, the guests relaxed in the field outside the marquee, where there were gardens games for children and adults alike. If that wasn’t enough, the guests were delighted when a Mr. Whippy Ice Cream van arrived, courtesy of Grahams’ Ices.
The weather held for most of day with spells of sunshine and the occasional rainy outburst later in the evening, where Rebecca’s forward thinking of having 20 clear umbrellas to hand by the entrance way certainly came in handy. The weather didn’t spoil the fun, which included the disco, a Photobooth from Booth Revolution and then a surprise bouncy castle and sumo costumes organized by one of their ushers!
The celebrations continued late into the evening, with the after which Matthew and Rebecca and their closest family stayed at Deighton Lodge, for a well-deserved rest.
On reflection, Rebecca and Matthew said “The feedback we have received from our guests has been overwhelming, the whole day was amazing, the fact that Deighton Lodge is a new wedding venue, and the time and effort we put in to make it personal totally paid off. People say your wedding day is the best day of your life….they weren’t lying – it really is!
We couldn’t have made our dreams come true without all the hard work and efforts from our friends, family, suppliers and of course the amazing team at Deighton lodge. “Having Zena from Boodika Events for On the Day Co-Ordination was such a good idea. I’m pretty organized and really enjoyed doing all the planning and preparation myself, but on my wedding day I didn’t want to hassle of having to make sure everything went to plan. We had met a couple of times before and I handed the running of the day to Zena. She effortlessly made sure everyone was in the right place at the right time, meeting suppliers as they arrived and making sure they knew where to set up. She also acted as Master of Ceremonies and kept our timings on track. She was always there, thinking of the little things that you wouldn’t even think of yourself – and on your wedding day, you shouldn’t have to!”
Thanks to Hodgson and I’Anson for the photos, and Boodika Events for such a lovely write up.
